I have very valuable data on punchcards that must be read and stored on
disk.

Is that possible with an Acorn? Can an Acorn access a punchcard-reader?

It depends on the punchcard reader. I did have some software that I wrote
years and years ago to access some makes of punchcard reader on the BBC B,
so if you've got the correct interfaces available, then it /may/ be
possible.

Unfortunately, the punchcard readers I had at work at the time got replaced
circa 1988.
